Class descriptions

Tranquil Space offers a variety of classes for all levels. We strive to provide an enlightened experience to nurture your mind, body, and spirit. A few of our special touches include lavender aromatherapy spray during relaxation, complimentary tea and cookies pre-and post-practice, hands on assists from our highly trained teachers and teacher assistants, and a focus on taking your practice off the mat. Below is a description of our weekly class options:

 

Standard offerings

Yoga 1 - 75 minutes: A great introduction to the world of vinyasa yoga. Yoga 1 is a beginners class which incorporates the fundamentals of step-back sun salutations, standing poses, hip-openers, seated poses, twists, backbends, and basic inversions. Breathing exercises are explored as students begin to link movement through the postures with the inhale and exhale. Yoga 1 provides 1a nurturing environment to help you gain flexibility, strength, balance, and relaxation. A perfect class for those new to yoga or anyone seeking a refresher on the basics of alignment and the vinyasa flow.

Yoga 2
- 75 minutes: A more vigorous class where a faster pace, more intense and challenging poses, and the addition of jump-backs and jump-forwards combine to take your practice to the next level. Surya namaskar (sun salutations) A and B, including chatarunga and upward-facing dog, are practiced in Yoga 2. Strength-building standing poses are combined in creative vinyasa sequences. Deeper backbends, more complex balancing poses, and inversions are practiced. A strong foundation in the basics is encouraged.

Yoga 3 - 90 minutes: The most challenging practice we offer, Yoga 3 is geared toward students strong in yoga 2 who wish to push the limits of their practice with an intense class adding complex arm-balances and inversions such as headstand, handstand, and forearm stand to a vigorous vinyasa flow. Regular participation in Yoga 2 and a regular home practice are expected. No beginners, please.

On-the-go - 60 minutes: An invigorating all-levels flow for busy people. This one-hour class covers step-back sun salutations, standing poses, hip-openers, seated poses, twists, backbends, and basic inversions. Newer students can build a strong base while more seasoned yogis can take their chaturanga and backbends deeper with variations. Enjoy flexibility, strength, and tranquility. 

Open flow - 75 minutes: An invigorating all-levels flow. This class covers step-back sun salutations, standing poses, hip-openers, seated poses, twists, backbends, and basic inversions. Newer students can build a strong base while more seasoned yogis can take their chaturanga and backbends deeper with variations. Gain flexibility, strength, and stamina. Think on-the-go plus 15 minutes of flow!

 

Specialty offerings

Baby and Me Yoga (0-6 months) - 60 minutes: Babies 2 weeks to 6/7 months are welcome! This Baby and Me Yoga class is open to women in all stages of postpartum, dads, relatives and caregivers.  The teacher, Carol Collins will guide you through vinyasa yoga to help you reconnect with your body. We combine baby yoga and massage with yoga for you!  The community of caregivers in this class will nurture you emotionally as you care for your infant. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents, strengthen your core muscles, and play with your baby at the same time. Classes are for babies not yet crawling. You are free to drop-in class by class for $19 or pay for a group of classes: six for $98 or ten for $150.  If you have a class pass for our other Tranquil Space group classes, you can use it for the Baby and Me classes.  Contact carol@tranquilspace.com with any questions!

Yoga with Crawlers (6-15 months) - 60 minutes: This class is the perfect sequel to our baby and me 0-6 month classes.  Adults will practice more yoga!  We will form a circle around the babies and monitor them while they parallel play with one another in the middle of our spacious studio with toys (please bring toys to share).  Babies will have the opportunity to explore their surroundings, parents, caregivers and other babies, as you move through yoga poses to strengthen and energize you. Five to 10 minutes will be set aside for play time which will include flying baby pose. No snacks please. This class is offered as a series and requires a special one class or series pass purchase to attend.You are free to drop-in class by class for $20 or pay for a group of classes: six for $96 or ten for $140.  Contact carol@tranquilspace.com with any questions!

Candlelight Yin - 75 minutes: Yin yoga focuses on passive asanas practiced with meditative focus and rich awareness to create a very deep, integrated and satisfying practice. Complementary to a more active (yang) style of practice, yin yoga targets the deep, dense connective tissues of the body, with a focus the hips, pelvis, lower back, and knees. The exploration of yin asanas serves as a steady foundation for inward-turning and subtle energetic and organ awareness, while cultivating our capacity for presence. Suitable for all levels—especially those wishing to take their practice to a deeper level of sensitivity and stillness, both inside and out.

Family Yoga (15 months to 3 years) - 60 minutes: Get your yoga on and bring your kids along.  We'll have age appropriate toys for your young ones to play with while you practice vinyasa yoga. All parents are required to watch their children while you practice, so plan to be flexible. Our large Earth Studio is child proofed and the teacher is comfortable helping with children when needed. You may bring soft toys with you to share. No snacks please. This class is offered as a series and requires a special one class or series pass purchase to attend. Itsy Bitsy Yoga® for Tots (crawling to 24 months) - 45 minutes: Itsy Bitsy Yoga for Tots is a supportive, fun-loving, and active yoga class. As tot's mobility increases, classes offer tot-centric poses that encourage and support their physical explorations. During a tots Itsy Bitsy Yoga class crawlers and walkers playfully practice yoga postures while they are standing, sitting up, walking and jumping.  Itsy Bitsy Yoga was created by Helen Garabedian, an infant developmental movement educator, yoga teacher, and mother. Classes are taught by Siobhan, who was trained as an Itsy Bitsy Yoga facilitator.  An adult must attend class with the child but no yoga experience is necessary. This class is offered as a series and requires a special one class or series pass purchase to attend. You are free to drop-in class by class for $19 or pay for a group of classes: six for $84 or ten for $125.  Contact siobhan@tranquilspace.com with any questions!

Itsy Bitsy Yoga® for Tykes (21 months to 4 years) - 45 minutes: Itsy Bitsy Yoga for Tykes combines unique toddler-friendly yoga poses with songs, stories, and games to create an enriching parent/child activity. Each class is personalized around tykes's curiosities as they learn yoga through social interaction, repetition, and play. Tykes also learn how to relieve frustration, improve motor skills, and increase attention span by actively following directions. Itsy Bitsy Yoga was created by Helen Garabedian, an infant/early childhood developmental movement educator, yoga teacher and mom of a tyke. Classes are taught by Siobhan, who was trained as an Itsy Bitsy Yoga facilitator. An adult must attend class with the child but no yoga experience is necessary. Members On-the-go - 60 minutes: Join us for this one hour invigorating all-levels flow just for Tranquil Space Members. This class covers step-back sun salutations, standing poses, hip-openers, seated poses, twists, backbends, and basic inversions. Newer students can build a strong base while more seasoned yogis can take their chattarunga and backbends deeper with variations. gain flexibility, strength, and stamina. Create a one-hour oasis for yourself on and off the mat! Not recommended for brand new beginners. This class is for current Tranquil Space Members only. What is membership? Mindfulness Meditation - 60 minutes: Consider supplementing your asana practice with the interplay of mindfulness. Deepen your connection to yourself and your spiritual practice by finding a sense of tranquility within during this class focused on being versus doing. Practice being still while sitting with your breath and sensations followed by an inspirational talk and Q+A. A brief meditation tutorial is shared during each class and all levels are welcome. 

Prenatal yoga - 75 minutes: Experience how yoga can support and empower you during your journey through pregnancy and towards parenthood. The practice of gentle vinyasa yoga coupled with breath work and meditation designed for expectant women will help you adjust to the changes of pregnancy; it will also help you prepare yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally for childbirth and labor and for your life as a parent. Our classes offer a space where you gain strength and flexibility, develop confidence and intuitive powers, and enhance your ability to relax. Restorative yoga - 60 or 75 minutes (check schedule): Relax over blankets in poses that restore your body and mind, and end with a yummy savasana/final relaxation. A peaceful and rejuvenating way to prepare for your week, all levels are welcome. 

Yin on-the-go - 60 minutes: Yin yoga focuses on passive asanas with breath work and meditation to create a very deep, integrated and satisfying practice. complementary to active vinyasa, yin yoga targets the deep, dense connective tissues of the body - the tendons, ligaments and cartilage - which are difficult to energize and open. The yin postures focus on the hips, pelvis, lower back, and knees, helping the body remain supple at its core. Suitable for anyone interested in taking his or her practice to a renewed level of awareness and stillness, both inside and out. Appropriate for all levels.

Yin/yang yoga - 90 minutes: This class incorporates both yin yoga and yang (or active) yoga. Yin yoga focuses on passive asanas with breath work and meditation to create a very deep, integrated and satisfying practice. Complementary to active vinyasa, yin yoga targets the deep, dense connective tissues of the body -- the tendons, ligaments and cartilage -- which are difficult to energize and open. The yin postures focus on the hips, pelvis, lower back, and knees, helping the body remain supple at its core. The yin portion of the class is followed by a more active yang portion. Suitable for anyone interested in taking his or her practice to a renewed level of awareness and stillness, both inside and out. Appropriate for all levels. 

Yoga + meditation - 75 minutes: Join us for a 1-hour all-levels flow followed by 15 minutes of guided meditation. The asana portion of the class covers step-back sun salutations, standing poses, hip-openers, seated poses, twists, backbends, and basic inversions and will end with restorative poses to prepare the mind and body for meditation. The guided meditation portion will explore different techniques, including mindfulness (vipassana), lovingkindness (metta), mantra, and zen (zazen). Newer students can build a strong base in asana and meditation while more seasoned yogis can take their practice deeper.

Yoga for men - 75 minutes: An all-levels yoga practice designed for men. The focus of the class is to release tension, build strength, and cultivate inner calm. Take your asanas deeper with hip-hamstring stretches, arm balances, shoulder openers, detoxifying twists, and partner work. Special focus is paid to meditation, pranayama, and relaxation.

Teacher training

Tranquil Space's teacher training program was launched in 2002 and offers training for yogis of all levels. Join our level 1 introductory program, 200-hour, 500-hour, prenatal, or postnatal trainings. Deepen your own practice and explore the world of teaching. Cancellation Policies

Classes: you may cancel up to one hour before class begins. If cancelling within one hour of class, your class pass or drop in will be charged.

Workshops: Once one registers for a workshop, their space is reserved. To cancel, the workshop participant must contact the studio (by phone, email to info@tranquilspace.com, or in person) 72 hours or more before the workshop. They will receive account credit less a $5 administrative fee. No credits will be issued within 72 hours of a workshop. If Tranquil Space cancels a workshop the workshop participant may choose a refund or account credit.

Domestic retreats: No refunds will be issued unless the person's space can be filled with someone from the waiting list. If the space is not filled, a credit toward future Tranquil Space offerings will be issued pnly if the cancellation is received one full week prior to the event minus a $100 administrative fee. No credits or refunds will be issued if cancellation is received within one week of the event. If Tranquil Space must cancel due to insufficient enrollment, the deposit and paid balance will be refunded fully.

International retreats: No refunds will be issued on deposits. No refunds for the balance will be issued unless the canceling person's space can be filled with someone from the waiting list. If the space is not filled from the waiting list, a credit toward future Tranquil Space offerings will be issued only if the cancellation is received one week prior to the retreat minus the deposit and a $100 administrative fee. No credits or refunds will be issued if cancellation is received within one week of the event. If we must cancel due to insufficient enrollment, the deposit and paid balance will be refunded fully.

Studio rental + Yoga parties: A refund on the deposit will be issued only if we receive notice within 96 hours (4 days) of the need to cancel, minus a $20 administrative fee. A credit of the deposit toward classes or workshops will be issued only if the cancellation is received 48 hours prior to the event, minus a $20 administrative fee. No credits or refunds will be issued if cancellation is received within 48 hours of the event.

Private sessions: Your session time and the teacher's time is reserved for you. iI a private session is cancelled less than 24 hours prior to the session, the fee will be charged in full.
