Tranquil Space is proud to bring you our advanced teacher training (ATT) for students and teachers of yoga. ATT is a dynamic program which delves into yoga teaching methodology, yoga philosophy, anatomy & physiology, psychology, ayurveda, therapeutics, and much more. ATT is led by our teaching faculty and internationally recognized guest teachers.

Teachers of yoga certified at the 200-hour level are invited to apply to 500-hour certification. Students may elect to complete the whole 500-hour certification in one year or two years. There are four required modules in the training: Surya (solar asanas, pranayama, anatomy), Chandra (lunar, yin, philosophy, restorative), mandala (integration, sequencing, therapeutics), and mindfulness, ethics, and psychology. Certification includes over 260 contact hours, plus an additional 40 non-contact hours. More information on certification requirements

Students are welcome to enroll for a workshop, a weekend, or the entire training. ATT is open to everyone wishing to deepen their understanding and practice of yoga. Continuing education credits (CE) for yoga teachers are available. See our website for upcoming trainings and workshops.

Contact Hours

Surya
Explore the foundations and the evolution of vinyasa yoga.  Find a new understanding of asana, pranyama, practice techniques, precise alignment, and fluid movement.  These solar and energetic weekends will draw from the ashtanga, iyengar, and jivamukti lineages, while exploring the classic principles of hatha yoga.  Focus on shaktipat (the gift of teaching) through intelligently sequencing a class, physical assisting, finding your seat as a teacher, and incorporating yoga philosophy.  Be immersed in an in-depth survey of human anatomy.  Explore the science of movement physiology, and the practice of yoga with expert teachers. For ATT certification three modules are required for a total of 52.5 contact hours.

Chandra
Uncover the lunar, yin, and healing practices of vinyasa.  Learn to practice and teach the ancient principles of pranayama, yin-yang yoga, and ayurveda.  These modules will explore the chakras, the subtleties of breath, the energetic body, therapeutics, and thai body-work.  Students shall also explore the poetry of vinyasa yoga through chanting, kirtan and bhakti yoga, while delving deeper into yogic philosophy. Join and allow yourself to feel renewed. For ATT certification both modules are required for a total of 35 contact hours.

Mandala
Integrate the elements of hatha yoga into union into a vinyasa exploration.  Focus on the creative science of modern vinyasa yoga and the sacred cosmic dance.  Weave foundations of yoga into intelligent, balanced, and energetic vinyasa science. There will be special focus on peak poses, developing core strength, arm-balances, and inversions.  Topics include teaching methodology, intelligent sequencing, adjustments and assists.  For ATT certification all three modules are required for a total of 52.5 contact hours.

Mindfulness, Ethics & Psychology (MEP)
Explore the balance in teaching through mindfulness, ethics, and psychology. Uncover the roots of dharma and mindfulness meditation. Learn  how the first boddhis were also the first psychologists.  Learn how the effects of stress, depression, anxiety, and trauma on the body. Become more comfortable in your “seat” as teacher, including teaching ethics and setting safe boundaries in the classroom.  All three sections shall be folded into an integrated approach to life. Look at how modern science and research support these ancient practices for healing. For ATT certification three modules are required for a total of 52.5 contact hours.

NOTE: Anatomy & Physiology requirements have been folded into 3 tracks in the above.

Additional Contact Hour Requirements

In addition to the weekend classroom requirements, the following are non-classroom requirements for contact hours. The student can decide which areas to elect for additional contact. When you enroll in ATT you will develop a contact hour plan with the Teacher Training Director.

Practice Requirement
Daily yoga and meditation practice required. Take a minimum of 30 vinyasa classes taken at Tranquil Space during the ATT year. Teachers receive a 15% discount on class passes. Become a TA to get class credits in trade. You are encouraged to take classes outside of Tranquil Space in a variety of styles. 37.5 hours minimum.

Teaching Assistant
Assist a Tranquil Space yoga class with a senior E-RYT level teacher. Become a teaching assistant (TA) for a minimum of 30 Tranquil Space classes. Develop your assists by working with a senior teacher. Receive a free class for every class you assist. 37.5 contact hours suggested.

Mentoring
On-going mentoring shall be required of all students in the ATT program. Mentors will be lead teachers and graduates of the 500-hour program. You will work together to deepen their understanding of the following: assisting, teaching practicum, sequencing, anatomy, and ethics. 10 contact hours required.

Assist with Teacher Training
Assist the Level 1 or 200-hour teacher trainings as a training assistant. 10 contact hours suggested, more encouraged.

Elective Track
As teachers of yoga, we all gravitate towards certain teachers and styles. This elective has been created to allow students to find teachers with whom they resonate and learn more directly from them. Teacher trainees may attend master workshops, create a supervised teaching assistant apprenticeship, undergo individual mentoring, or mix these options to create their ideal learning relationship. Elective plans must be reviewed and approved by the Teacher Training Director. 15 contact hours maximum.

Prenatal and Postnatal Elective
ATT students may decide to register for the pre- and/or post-natal teacher trainings at Tranquil Space.  A separate registration fee is required for this elective. See the website for more information. 15-30 contact hours optional.

Final Teaching-Yoga Thesis

Upon completion of all ATT requirements, students will teach a final class for certification and peer review. Classes shall reflect the advanced components and teaching modalities of the training. Students are expected to demonstrate an advanced integration of teaching methods, physical assists, philosophy, and ethics. An oral interview will also follow with lead teachers, this includes a review of the students final thesis project. Required 10 hours of teaching and observation.

Final Yoga Thesis Certification Fee

For students who purchase weekends individually and who wish to receive the 500-hour yoga alliance certification, an additional certification fee will be charged. This fee includes review of the student's thesis project, review of final teaching, and 500-hour diploma.
