Students and guests were greeted by festive balloons and flowers on the steps of Tranquil Space yoga studio on July 19th for our grand opening celebration. This special day began with $5 beginning-level yoga classes on the hour benefiting local charities House of Ruth, Whitman-Walker Clinic, and the DC Humane Society. Each student had the opportunity to choose which cause he or she would like to support and we raised $230 to donate to the various chairties. At 7:00 p.m., the studios began to fill with laughter and merriment as yogis gathered for the TranquiliTea soiree. The first fifty to enter were given free yoga class passes and a few lucky patrons received time slots for seated massages given throughout the evening by massage therapist Joletta Humpert. In the Sea Studio, DJ Stylus set the mood with ambient music while guests danced, mingled, and enjoyed vegetarian hors d'oeuvres prepared by Kim O'Donnel of washingtonpost.com's "What's Cooking?" A selection of herbal teas, wine, and delightful cookies awaited students upstairs in the Sky Studio and the Green Tea Lounge. A special $10 promotion on all TranquiliT tee-shirts took place in the boutique, where guests were also given a chance to enter in a raffle which took place at the end of the evening. Lucky winners received free TranquiliT goods and massages. The evening culminated in a beautiful display of yogic strength, grace, and flexibility by Tranquil Space teachers Lisa Farmer and Kimberly Wilson, along with special guest Simon Park. Spectators packed into the sea studio, joined together in the chanting of "Om" and gasped as demonstrators seemed to defy gravity in spectacular vinyasas, arm-balances, and inversions. | ||||||||||||||
