"Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states
we have to go through. Where people fail is that they wish to elect a
state and remain in it. This is a kind of death." ~ Anais Nin

While on a tranquiliT boutique
buying trip in Vegas
this week, searching for the perfect additions (found FAB ponchos made
in
Nepal!), I came face to face with my continual challenge to let go. I
was on a mission to find a WIFI hotspot
connection so that I could get online, check in with the fabulous folks
at the
studio, finalize the newsletter, and simply connect with my DC reality.
After
searching high and low at internet cafes, my own hotel, and coffe
shops, I discovered Las Vegas did not appear to be
aware of
the term "WIFI." I realized that my ability to get
online was limited as Vegas didn't appear to cater to the
business-minded
crowd. Yet, I had to find a solution
before returning to DC late at night and moving to a new apartment
early the
next morning. The ironic conclusion to
my self-defined drama was that there was a WIFI connection at the RV
park right
next to my hotel. Filled with
excitement upon the receipt of this data, I raced over to the RV park
before
heading to the airport. Finally, I had
43 unadulterated minutes online.
I share this with you because I
am now
internally smiling about the situation, although it happened less than
24 hours
ago and the feelings of helplessness are still fresh. It is interesting
to note what dramas occur in life
that appear
life or death at the moment, yet, in the grand scheme of things, are
quite
minute. There was a point in my 2-day
struggle to locate WIFI connection that I had to make a choice. I could
let the situation frustrate me to
the point of ruining an evening watching Cirque del Soleil perform 2
hours of
incredible yoga, or I could take a deep breath and let the situation
go,
knowing that a solution would arise. This choice is something we all
make numerous times
throughout the
day. Let's use this new, fresh season
to make some changes to the autopilot nature of reaction.
September
signifies a season of renewal and change. Crisp air, hot tea, falling
leaves, pumpkins, heated
yoga practices, and
scarves - autumn is almost here. This season brings up feelings of a
clean
slate — the chance to start anew while the outside world begins to shed
its
leaves in preparation for winter's hibernation. Remember
when frustration sets in that you have a choice. Let's
choose to take a deep breath, let go
of the inclination to react, and work on being proactive towards
finding a
solution. Rather than wallowing in the
challenging
situation, let go, enjoy the moment, breathe, and watch your WIFI
connection
appear as close as the overlooked RV park next door.

Peg began teaching at Tranquil Space in July
2002. Since that time
she has completed the level two teacher training with Kimberly Wilson.
She has also attended trainings with Seane Corn, Jonny Kest, Simon Park
and Shiva Rea. She is a registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance.
In addition to teaching yoga levels one, two and three at Tranquil
Space, Peg offers private yoga and Transformational Life
Counseling
(TLC). Her counseling and "yoga off the mat" workshops focus on our
Tranquil Space vision of living life more fully and consciously.
Peg
writes:
After more than 20 years of contemplating getting a tattoo, I chose to
put a lotus flower on my foot. What does this tattoo tell you about me?
Personality:
Although I am fun loving and open-minded, I don’t generally make
decisions on a whim. I think deeply about choices that I make,
especially if there is a long-term commitment involved. I am grounded
and natural. I like to go bare-foot. I like being outdoors and love
water. I am a spiritual person, a seeker of wisdom and hope that I will
always stay on the path of my true nature, regardless of the pain or
obstacles.
Yoga and
Spirituality: I am a physical person
and enjoy the challenges of the asana practice. Yoga, however, is more
spiritual for me. The lotus flower represents my passion and the
duality of my journey. I am drawn to the suffering and messiness of our
human lives (like the lotus growing from the muddy swamp) and at the
same time, I am light and open to my connection to a larger
consciousness. I strive to rise above adversity, remain calm when chaos
abounds and offer kindness under all circumstances. This has always
been true about me and that is why finding yoga felt somewhat like
"coming home".

My first experience with yoga was about
nine years ago at the Fitness Center of
the International Monetary Fund.... Having failed one day to find a
racketball
partner I decided to take a yoga class offered at the moment and I was
pleasantly surprise by how much I got without having to run, jump and
scream all
over a court.. It was in one of these classes that I met Kimberly
Wilson, who
came a couple of times to the Fitness Center as a substitute to the
regular
teacher. I never forgot how interesting and challenging she made
yoga for
us....So, about three years ago I showed up at Tranquil Space at the
church on
16th St and yoga became a regular part of my life. Kimberly has
made a
wonderful place for yogis at Tranquil Space, it offers the kind of
atmosphere
that makes you feel welcome and special, regardless of your gender,
level or
age. The teachers are so motivated and they transmit this with
professionalism
and care. You can see the Kimberly´s touch in the
decoration of every room
which makes it double attractive to be there.......did I mention
cookies and
tea?

After spending most of the past two decades
wishing I didn't have to deal
with a pesky body interfering in my (very cerebral and
head-in-the-clouds)
life, I've finally started to come to terms with my body. We're
even
becoming friends. Yoga at Tranquil Space supports
my efforts to reconnect
with my physical self. My body
and I hash out our differences on the yoga
mat, and
then we both feel amazing afterwards. I feel so
blessed to be
part of such an incredible, supportive
community both as a yogi and as part
of the Tranquil
Space TranquiliTeam. I am so lucky! You guys
are awesome!!
